KITP's Eighth Annual Physics Songs Contest

Deborah writes:
The annual KITP end of the year party and open house will be held on Wednesday, December 9 at 3pm in the Main Seminar Room. Family and friends are welcome, and written announcements are in your mailboxes. There will be a special musical performance by Suenos Cubanos.

This year we will be having our Eighth Annual Physics Songs contest. This is your opportunity to create your own physics song/verse using holiday tunes and themes. Entries may be composed by individuals or groups. All entries should be submitted to me by noon on December 9 so that they may be photocopied for singing/judging. Songs may be presented by the author(s) or be sung by the entire group; poems may be read by the author(s). The author(s), if shy, may delegate this to a willing performer, preferably one with a LOUD voice.

Did someone ask about prizes? Yes, there will be prizes, and traditionally we have given out 3. These are bona fide prizes, too, just in case you were wondering...

So, get your pens and keyboards ready and compose! This is a really fun opportunity to share your science with a broader audience

For inspiration -- or just for fun-- check out the KITP Songbook Sampler at
http://www.kitp.ucsb.edu/visitors/info/mso/past/song-sampler.php

Helpful hints:
1) one of the big hits a few years ago was the entire Quantum Info program presenting their song, complete with their own piano player (hint, hint)

2) while we try to encourage the use of holiday tunes, other tunes are also okay --

3) based upon past experience, only one entry of the 12 days of Xmas may be accepted

I AM EAGERLY ANTICIPATING THE ARRIVAL OF YOUR SONGS!!

Thanks --

Deborah

Oh BQP! Oh BQP! What ya'do on input x?
The computation's there nor here; as your amp's do interfere
Oh BQP! Oh BQP! You are a class so complex

Oh BQP! Oh BQP! How can you be bounded?
Oh BQP! Oh BQP! Even Scott's dumbfounded!
You eas'ly cover BPP; but do you fit in t'hierarchy?
Oh BQP! Oh BQP! How can you be bounded?

Oh BQP! Oh BQP! What wonders lie inside you!
Oh BQP! Oh BQP! When will we have applied you?
There's not a proof But we agree; You reach outside of BPP.
Oh BQP! Oh BQP! What wonders lie inside you!

Oh BQP, Oh BQP; How do you surprise us!
Oh BQP, Oh BQP; This is what we Confess:
Yes we know you factorize, but we want a Nobel prize
